How to Create a Study Schedule for Exam Season
Juggling multiple exams is stressful because you never know whether you are spending too much time on one subject and too little on another. This tool builds a balanced day‑by‑day plan so every subject gets its fair share of study time.
- Add each exam: enter the subject name, exam date, number of chapters, and how hard the material feels to you.
- Set your daily study hours and pick which days of the week you want to rest (e.g. Saturday, Sunday).
- Click "Generate Study Plan" — the algorithm distributes your available hours across subjects, weighting each one by how many chapters it has and its difficulty.
- Each day is split into a morning and an afternoon session so you see exactly what to study and when.
- Export the plan as a PNG image to hang on your wall or as an .ics file to add daily study reminders to your phone calendar.
How the Scheduling Algorithm Works
The scheduler calculates the total number of study hours you have between today and your last exam, excluding rest days. It then assigns each subject a weight based on how many chapters it has multiplied by a difficulty factor (easy ×0.7, medium ×1.0, hard ×1.3), so harder or longer subjects get proportionally more time.
Days are filled greedily — subjects with the earliest exam dates and highest weights are scheduled first. The day before each exam is reserved for review, and exam days themselves are left open so you walk in fresh.
FAQ
How is the study time divided between subjects?
Each subject is assigned a weight = (number of chapters) × (difficulty factor: easy 0.7, medium 1.0, hard 1.3). The total available study hours are split in proportion to each subject's weight. A 12-chapter hard science course gets roughly twice as much time as an 8-chapter easy elective.
What if I have more subjects to study than days?
The algorithm will still distribute time proportionally — but on tighter schedules each subject gets fewer and shorter sessions. If a subject cannot receive any sessions, it will be flagged so you can adjust your hours per day or drop a rest day.
Can I change the plan after it's generated?
You can adjust your daily hours, rest days, or exam details at any time and click "Regenerate" to rebuild the plan. The plan is not editable day-by-day in this version — that feature is on the roadmap.
Where is my exam list saved?
Only in your browser, using local storage. Your exam data never leaves your device, and it persists across page refreshes on the same browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
Does the plan account for review time before each exam?
Yes. The day before each exam is reserved as a review day for that subject, and the exam day itself is left empty so you can rest and focus on the test.
